What kinds of assessments can you provide?

At EAC, we provide assessments for a large variety of referral questions. The most typical assessments we provide are for diagnosing ADHD, Learning Disabilities, Autism Spectrum Disorders, Intellectual/Developmental Disorders, and psychiatric disorders. It’s not uncommon that an evaluation will investigate more than one of these categories. We are capable of evaluating individuals from pre-school throughout the lifespan.

Are there any evaluations that you do not provide?

There are a few categories of assessment that we are not providing at this time. We are not routinely doing initial evaluations for toddlers with Autism Spectrum Disorders. (A proper ASD evaluation in this age group should include a multidisciplinary team of psychologists, speech/language pathologists, occupational therapists, and behavior analysts, not all of which we have on staff.) We are not providing court-ordered psychiatric evaluations for FOID cards, parental fitness evaluations or psychosexual risk evaluations.

What are the costs associated with psychological assessment?

The cost of your psychological assessment will depend on the kinds of questions that you ask us to answer. Typical, clinical evaluations (e.g., diagnosing ADHD) will cost around $800, but more comprehensive psychological evaluations (e.g., full psychological testing to assess a combination of concerns like ADHD/Autism/Learning Disability, or documenting disability for standardized assessments like the GRE, LSAT, or MCAT) will cost $3,000. Brief assessments for specific purposes that do not include clinical diagnosis (e.g., MENSA testing, brief personality assessment) can be completed at a rate of $150 per clinical hour. At the conclusion of your initial consultation, we will offer you a cost breakdown of the services for your unique assessment.

These fees are expensive, and I cannot afford it. Are there any other options for me?

Yes! At EAC, it’s our mission to offer assessment services to anyone who needs them. We can offer reduced fee services depending on financial need. Contact Dr. Thomas-Stagg at jonathan@evergreenax.com for more information.

Why don’t you bill my health insurance?

EAC is not credentialed with any insurance companies at this time. This is by design. Unfortunately, when assessment practices work with clients to bill insurance companies, those insurance companies often dictate the types of tests we can use, how much time we can spend working with you, and even whether they will pay for the service at all depending on the outcome of the tests. This means that when we bill insurance companies directly, we are hindered in giving you the right assessment that you may need.

Can I ask my insurance company to reimburse me for my out-of-pocket expenses?

Absolutely! We will generate receipts and what is known as a “superbill,” that you can present to your insurance company. However, we offer a *strong* warning that it is best to assume that your insurance company *will not* reimburse you for EAC services. There are many reasons for this, and your psychologist will be happy to discuss this at your consultation if you have questions about it. Just one reason that your insurance company may not reimburse you is if your assessment reveals no diagnosis, or a diagnosis (e.g., learning disability) that they don’t feel is “medically necessary,” to have had an evaluation.

How long will the evaluation take?

There are multiple parts to a clinical evaluation including clinical interview, administering/collecting/scoring rating scales, and administering in-person clinical tests. After data is collected, it is carefully analyzed and written into a clinical report. After that, you meet with your provider for a feedback session to go over the results. From start to finish, it’s reasonable to expect that the process could last four to eight weeks.

Can you help me get accommodations from my school, University, or on tests like the GRE, MCAT, or LSAT?

Yes! We absolutely can. We have special expertise in helping people get legally protected accommodations.
